Ari Ellsworth Conrad Karman checked in to this great spinning world at 1:36 am on Wed, May 5. He's 18 inches long, though if you point his big feet downward, it might be closer to 2 feet even.
He weighed 5 pounds and 5 ounces. We think 5&5 on 5/5 is a pretty good sign. Mom is doing well. Dad is mastering the burrito wrap and churning out nicknames by the hour. Everyone is sleeping as we can.
Ari joins the ranks of other May 5 birthday luminaries Karl Marx and Soren Kierkegaard, as well as local St Paul church House of Mercy. And since May 5 is Cinco de Mayo, we think he's a pretty revolutionary baby too.
We love him so much already we can barely speak.
Ari (pronounced AR-ee) is Hebrew and means 'lion'. We have a good, well-loved friend with the name, and we have good vibes with lions (ever read "Henderson the Rain King" or the Narnia books?), and we thought it was easy enough to spell that he could get bonus points on his first day of school. :) And we like it. Though I'll be the first to admit that naming someone feels like a real honor and a weighty thing, and every time I say 'Ari Karman' it feels a little like it's a pseudonym or we just made it up. Which, I guess, we did.
Ellsworth is Juliana's dad's middle name.
Conrad is Peter's granddad's first name (Peter's middle name comes from Conrad too).
